Gerald C. McDevitt is a forensic reconstruction and forensic mapping expert with more than 32 years of professional experience, qualified and accepted as an expert witness in state courts across multiple jurisdictions, in United States District Courts, and in United States military courts under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
He has been qualified and accepted as an expert witness in the disciplines of traffic collision reconstruction, forensic mapping, and emergency vehicle operations, His methodology is developed to meet Daubert and Frye admissibility standards, and he has been qualified and accepted as an expert witness in state, federal, and United States military courts. Mr. McDevitt practices from the Charleston, South Carolina area and accepts casework nationwide and overseas.
Gerald McDevitt has reconstructed or assisted in the reconstruction of hundreds of fatal traffic collisions, investigated thousands of serious-injury collisions, and analyzed thousands of additional collision events.
He has provided forensic mapping and reconstruction support to major federal investigations, including assignment to the ATF National Response Team for the forensic mapping of the Charleston Sofa Super Store Fire, a multi-fatality line-of-duty incident involving nine firefighters.
He applies scientifically accepted methodologies utilizing Recon3D LiDAR scanning, Total Station surveying, Emlid RS3 GNSS mapping, UAV-based aerial photogrammetry, crash data retrieval, and 3D animation to produce reliable, reproducible findings suitable for judicial scrutiny.

Gerald McDevitt holds a Bachelor of Science in International Management from Clemson University and served in the United States Air Force as an Integrated Avionics Systems Specialist.
He began his accident reconstruction career in law enforcement with the Charleston Police Department, completing seventeen years of municipal law enforcement service as Traffic Homicide Team supervisor and forensic mapping specialist, responsible for fatal collision investigation, case preparation, and prosecutorial coordination. He also served as supervisor and trainer of the department’s Motorcycle Unit for more than fifteen years, and as an instructor in forensic mapping, Total Station technology, and emergency vehicle operations.
